This is my second Editorial since I became Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal Ecology (AJE). As did with previous (Luiselli, 2023), will continue in this case (and future Editorials) to emphasise aspects ecology that, opinion, are still underdeveloped and role that AJE can play their development. In addressed general “themes” greatest importance for development a fully “modern” ecological science Africa. Starting from “Editorial” deal more specific “hot” topics be particular interest our journal over next few years. For each these topics, invite contributions prominent authors form “Reviews”, “Perspectives”, “Interdisciplinary Perspectives”, even explore potential having special issues dedicated them. I'm going start series addressing one hottest contemporary conservation ecology: habitat fragmentation. Habitat fragmentation widely acclaimed as main threats biodiversity (Fahrig, 2017, 2019). Over last two decades, literally rivers (scientific) ink have been poured “northern world” (Europe North America) describe matrix permeability allow animals cross between forest patches (e.g., Anderson et al., 2022; Erős & Campbell Grant, 2015; Luque 2012; Neuschulz 2013; Watts Handley, 2010). result, dynamic theory around phenomenon has rapidly developed well how maintain valid connectivity fragments. A unifying point several studies functionally dominant unit landscape (Forman Godron, 1986). The “refugee-induced” effect remained virtually scientifically unstudied but certainly very promising field investigation years come. “Google Scholar” search (12 December 2022) revealed articles focusing on on: (i) patches, sacred grooves, protected reserves Alohou Smith 2019) or (ii) modelling distribution threatened faunas relation spatial forested (Freeman It seems evident me issue recreate invaluable isolated (or well-preserved savannahs) rather forgotten literature, albeit being extremely important. MRS Shimming: An Important Point Which Should not be Ignored
Introduction: Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a well-known device for analyzing the biological fluids metabolically. Obtaining accurate and reliable information via MRS needs a homogeneous magnetic field in order to provide well-defined peaks and uniform water suppression. There are lots of reasons which can disturb the magnetic field homogeneity which can be corrected by a proc...
متن کاملI-14: Assisted Reproduction and Religion What Consideration Should Be and Should Not Be Relevant,
Several important issues are pertinent to an ethical discussion of the new technology today grouped under the name Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART). This is a moral imperative because each of us must decide what is to be considered ethically acceptable in assisted reproduction. Reflecting on the ethical dimension of ‘creating’ a new human life can play a major role in ensuring that in eac...
متن کاملStaphylococcus lugdunensis; a pathogen that should be considered in Iran
Background: Staphylococcus lugdunensis is Gram-positive cocci of the staphylococcaceae family. S. lugdunensis despite having a clotting factor (wall coagulase), was classified in the coagulase negative staphylococcus group (CoNS) for lack of free coagulase. Although this bacterium is part of the human normal flora, in terms of virulence, S. lugdunensis is in second place after S. aureus. S. lug...
متن کاملShould Employers Be Permitted not to Hire Smokers? A Review of US Legal Provisions
Background Increasingly, healthcare and non-healthcare employers prohibit or penalize the use of tobacco products among current and new employees in the United States. Despite this trend, and for a range of different reasons, around half of states currently legally protect employees from being denied positions, or having employment contracts terminated, due to tobacco use. Methods We undertoo...
